There have been so many Whale and
Dolphin Sightings covering a huge geographic area and range of
species. This is a long catch up report again.
Volunteers are truly needed to help
compile data in a more timely manner. In particular during the height
of the season from June through September while more boats are on the
water generating more sightings reports. Currently it is still only
one person receiving and compiling reports.
Volunteers are also needed to help with
compiling identifications of individual animals so that the
information can be catalogued comprehensively.

the others Northbound between Savary Island and Dinner Rock. After
munching on a seal, they headed up Thulin Pass and stalled.

heading North on the outside of the Copeland Islands.

Around 10 am 4 Transient Bigg's Killer
whales sowed up around Donegal Head, Malcolm Island heading into
Cormorant Channel towards Sointula. They were targeting birds;
playing with, tormenting and killing them. It's uncertain if they ate
any of them or just left a path of dead birds in their wake.

Dall's Porpoise were in
larger numbers for a while at the top of Johnstone Strait, but have
spread, in smaller groups, down the coast after a few groups of
Transient Bigg's Orca passed through that area.
Harbour Porpoise are so
shy and usually in smaller groups that with the larger animal
reports, they tend not to get noticed or reported as frequently.
