We have been seeing an unprecedented number, in over twenty years, of Humpback Whales in the Northern Georgia Strait. Grey Whales too have been few and far between and are making a resurgence in our areas. Northern Resident pods are up and down Johnstone Strait. Our usual Transient Bigg's Orca, in particular the T02Cs, who we nicknamed our 'resident Transients' have taken a trip down to the Saturna Island area in the lower Georgia Strait. Dolphins and many Porpoise are staying in the upper inside channels.

GREY WHALES
Sat Aug 01 2015
19:30 • 1 Grey Whale foraging, a little West of Chaster Creek just West of Gibsons, Georgia Strait. As you're no doubt aware, there have been numerous gray whale sightings along the Sunshine Coast between Gibsons and West Sechelt. Yesterday evening (August 1/15) at about 7:30 pm, I photographed it at about 200 feet from shore ( was on the shore) a little west of Chaster Park (Chaster Creek), just west of Gibsons, as it was apparently feeding. Attached are some photos. ▫ Observed from Shore
14:00 • 1 Grey Whale heading North off Home Island (Salmon Rock) towards Gibsons, Howe Sound. We saw one suspected grey whale 2015-08-01 around 14.00 at Franklin Beach in Gibsons, travelling from near Gospel Rock toward Shoal Channel. We last saw it spout in front of Salmon Rock and Keats Island and suspect it continued towards Gibsons Harbour.
