A
few of the Northern Resident Orca, the A30's and A42's, have been
spending their time travelling from Robson Bight Ecological Reserve
out into Queen Charlotte Strait and back again. Transient Bigg's
Killer Whales have been on the hunt, it seems everywhere. They are
good at surprise attacks causing Pacific White Sided Dolphins to
scatter and other marine mammals to hide. There are a few more Dall's and Harbour
Porpoise being spotted which is possibly due to the Transient Bigg's preferring Dolphins right now. Humpback Whales are filling up, mostly on small fish, in
preparation for their travels back to breeding grounds in Mexico and
Hawaii. There seems to be less krill, their favourite food, in the
inside waters than I've (SM) seen for a long time. A few have started
practising their whale songs already around the top of Johnstone
Strait.

Orca come out of the fog rush and scatter a couple of hundred Pacific
White Sided Dolphins who were feeding on a bait ball just out from
Robson Bight. They chased and cornered some by Boat Bay at the top of
Johnstone Strait. Some spectacular leaps with their hunting
behaviour. They were the T100/T101's. They continued west following
the Dolphins.

am Monday, we saw 3 Orca slipping by inside the Trail Islands just
off shore and heading west. They only surfaced twice and once they
had travelled considerable distance we saw that there may have been a
4th. It looked like a baby travelling very close to its mom.
Unbelievably
an hour later at 10:35am an Elephant seal surfaced briefly, just off
shore. It was huge.
This
has been the most incredible year for sightings, on Saturday early
evening we witnessed the most incredible meteor crossing low in the
sky just above Vancouver Island travelling from left to right as we
faced due south. Its tail was so long and bright, the fireball was
huge and pure white trailing to yellow and as it disappeared over the
trees it broke apart creating more thrills. My guess would have it at
approx. 5mm in size as it appeared in the sky.
