Happy Holidays! Short Report: Dolphins and Hummingbirds in the Snow

All the Best for the Holidays!

All of us, the Board of Directors and Volunteers at Whales and Dolphins BC / Wild Ocean Whale Society (WOWs) wish all of you and yours a very Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year!

Most of the Whales and Dolphins appear to be having a winter holiday this year, and so, it appears we are too. Cetacean sightings have been virtually non-existent in the Sunshine Coast, central Georgia Strait and lower Johnstone Strait areas this month. So far, December 1 - 21st we have received one sighting report of a few Pacific White Sided Dolphins, and even they were Southbound!

Although things are quiet on the Cetacean side of things, Wild Ocean Whale Society (WOWs) has held its first Annual General Meeting and the Board of Directors have agreed that we can now open the society up for membership. More information will follow very soon.

Thank you all for your support and sightings information. Remember, we do work at it all year, so keep an eye out; they've got to be out there in that big ocean.

Pacific White Sided Dolphins

December 17:
11:30 am Small group of PWS Dolphins are mid strait between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay. There's no more than 10 of them and yes, they are Southbound. It's been a while, and couldn't find anything else out there, but good to see them.

For those of you interested in the Anna's Hummingbirds I have all winter, there were 5 of them coming to the feeder daily, but I have not been able to confirm if the number is down to 4 now after the first freeze we had early in December. There are still 2 males and quite a plump female. There was also a small male Rufous Hummingbird that also made an appearance just this past week. Presumably, he was Southbound and just stopped for a sip of the concentrated juice.
